Quotes on Receiving Personal Revelation:

The Holy Ghost leads us in all that we do.

"It is through the promptings of the Holy Ghost that we can be brought safely back onto the right path, and it is the atoning sacrifice of the Savior that can return us home". (Elder M. Russell Ballard,That the Lost May be Found, General Conference, April 2012) http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/that-the-lost-may-be-found?lang=eng

This quote explains the importance of prayer.

"One of the great lessons that each of us needs to learn is to ask. Why does the Lord want us to pray to Him and to ask? Because that is how revelation is received".( Elder Richard G. Scott, How to Obtain Personal Revelation and Inspiration for your Personal Life, General Conference, April 2012) http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/how-to-obtain-revelation-and-inspiration-for-your-personal-life?lang=eng

This quote helps me realize that anger will thwart the promptings of the Holy Ghost.

"Yielding to emotions such as anger or hurt or defensiveness will drive away the Holy Ghost. Those emotions must be eliminated, or our chance for receiving revelation is slight". ( Elder Richard G. Scott, How to Obtain Personal Revelation and Inspiration for your Personal Life, General Conference, April 2012) http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/how-to-obtain-revelation-and-inspiration-for-your-personal-life?lang=eng
Pride and personal revelation cannot dwell together.

"For spirituality to grow stronger and more available, it must be planted in a righteous environment. Haughtiness, pride, and conceit are like stony ground that will never produce spiritual fruit".

These are the signs that you have felt the prompting of the Holy Ghost.

"Two indicators that a feeling or prompting comes from God are that it produces peace in your heart and a quiet, warm feeling".

These area also signs that the Holy Ghost is prompting you.

"Revelation or inspiration comes by means of words or thoughts communicated to the mind, by sudden enlightenment, by positive or negative feelings about proposed courses of action, or even by inspiring performances, as in the performing arts".  (Elder Dallin H.Oaks, Eight Ways God Can Speak to You, New Era, Sept. 2004) http://www.lds.org/new-era/2004/09/eight-ways-god-can-speak-to-you?lang=eng

Even though we have the gift of the Holy Ghost, we don't always get the answers that we want.

"We do not always receive inspiration or revelation when we request it. Sometimes we are delayed in the receipt of revelation, and sometimes we are left to our own judgment. We cannot force spiritual things. It must be so. Our life’s purpose to obtain experience and to develop faith would be frustrated if our Heavenly Father directed us in every act, even in every important act. We must make decisions and experience the consequences in order to develop self-reliance and faith". (Elder Dallin H.Oaks, Eight Ways God Can Speak to You, New Era, Sept. 2004) http://www.lds.org/new-era/2004/09/eight-ways-god-can-speak-to-you?lang=eng
There are times that we have to make choices on our own.

"Even in decisions we think very important, we sometimes receive no answer to our prayers. This does not mean that our prayers have not been heard. It means only that we have prayed about a decision that, for one reason or another, we should make without guidance by revelation. Perhaps we have asked for guidance in choosing between alternatives that are equally acceptable or equally unacceptable". (Elder Dallin H.Oaks, Eight Ways God Can Speak to You, New Era, Sept. 2004) http://www.lds.org/new-era/2004/09/eight-ways-god-can-speak-to-you?lang=eng

Faith must be present in order to receive revelation.

"We cannot know what faith is if we have never had it, and we cannot obtain it as long as we deny it. Faith and doubt cannot exist in the same mind at the same time, for one will dispel the other". (President Thomas S. Monson, Come unto Him in Prayer and Faith, Ensign, March 2009) http://www.lds.org/liahona/2009/03/come-unto-him-in-prayer-and-faith?lang=eng

The more times that we are able to feel the spirit, the more our faith will grow.

"I witness that as you gain experience and success in being guided by the Spirit, your confidence in the impressions you feel can become more certain than your dependence on what you see or hear". (Elder Richard G. Scott , To Acquire Spiritual Guidance, General Conference, Oct. 2009) http://www.lds.org/service/teaching-the-gospel/video-gallery?lang=eng
